Calling all EU Citizens - 02/10/2020
Non-UK EU Citizens living in the UK need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to protect their rights by 30 June 2021. Information on how to apply is available here: https://www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families
If you need help with making your application, support is available in Cambridge as set out on the City Council’s website: https://www.cambridge.gov.uk/understanding-the-brexit-process-advice-from-the-government
Cambridge City Council is keen that non-UK EU citizens understand the process and deadline for applying to the EU Settlement Scheme, which is necessary for those wishing to continue to live and work in the UK. The impact of coronavirus may have made this harder this year. However, Brexit took place in January 2020, which means it is essential that EU Citizens apply to the Settlement Scheme to remain eligible for:
- public services, such as healthcare and schools
- public funds and pensions
- British citizenship - if people want to apply and meet the requirements.
If you are an employer with non UK EU citizens working for you have you checked they have applied? If not you probably should.
