Cybercrime is one of the fastest growing crime types with new threats and scams coming online every day. The UK government has classified cybercrime as a Tier 1 threat and it has been accepted that pursuing offenders alone would not reduce the numbers of victims. However GCHQ have identified that 80% of cybercrime could be eliminated by raising awareness among communities about online threats and encouraging them to protect themselves and their devices could reduce cybercrime by 80%.

The aim of the upskilling day is to raise awareness among staff and officers within the force to become cyber ambassadors within their districts/teams and support the PROTECT work by delivering presentations to their communities (Minimum of 2 a year) regarding Cybercrime awareness and prevention messaging and offering support to local Community Cyber Ambassadors.

The sessions will be delivered by a Get Safe Online instructor who will cover topics such as:

  • Cyber Terminology
  • The law
  • Basic advice
  • The Get Safe Online website
  • Specific risks/threats
