Can you help us?
We are a small independent charity looking for individuals who share our twin passions of helping people on low incomes or on benefits, and of seeking to reduce the nation's waste by re-use of unwanted household goods. We are looking for individuals who share these views to join our small trustee group.
Who are we?
Our charity serves the community in Cambridge and the surrounding area. We collect unwanted furniture, electrical goods and other household effects, and sell them at modest prices to those iwho are on low incomes or on benefits.
We operate from a warehouse in Cambridge, have a delivery and collection van, and employ 3 staff who work with a team of volunteers.
What is involved?
The role of our Trustees is to help guide and support the leadership of our organisation. By volunteering you will join a team of 6 Trustees who are responsible for the overall strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, and for meeting its regulatory obligations.
The trustees meet formally each month for about 2 hours; these meetings are currently online, but will be held in person at our warehouse in Cambridge when regulations allow. In addition, they may work in support of the staff at other times as required, utilising the skills that they bring to the charity. In a small charity such as ours, these can often be very "hands-on".
What we are looking for
We are looking for individuals who share our desire to improve the lives of some of the less fortunate members of our community, to save waste by re-use of unwanted goods, and to develop the skills of our staff and volunteers.
This could be an opportunity for someone to broaden their management experience, or for others with in-depth experience in any of general management, retail management, marketing, journalism, IT or fundraising.
