Choices: make a difference, become a trustee
“CHOICES have helped me reconcile my past, live comfortably in the her and now. Welcome the future.” Female client, aged 63.
It is estimated that one in four young people will experience some form of sexual abuse before the age of 18. While not all will develop mental health problems in later life, for some, the effects of childhood sexual abuse are traumatic and long-lasting.
CHOICES is a registered charity which offers recovery through individual specialist long-term counselling; psycho-educational workshops and telephone support. In addition, we offer professional development for counsellors and others working with sexual abuse.
We are looking for new trustees to join our Board at an exciting period of growth and development. Becoming a trustee is an opportunity to help survivors make lasting positive change in their lives.
The Board of Trustees determines the overall governance and strategic direction for the charity. It ensures that the organisation is achieving its aims, charitable objectives and full potential with prudent financial control.
Your commitment: you would be committing to regular attendance at board meetings, currently held monthly in central Cambridge for two hours and an annual strategy workshop. There will be occasional contact via email in between meetings. You may claim expenses for travel and childcare.
We are looking for individuals with skills/experience in:
- Fundraising and corporate engagement
- Strategic development/change management
- HR and/or legal experience
"It is a privilege to be able to work collaboratively within a team who have such varied expertise. The team feel passionately about providing a good service to those who often find it difficult to access the specialist help they need.” Former trustee.
