Cambridge Science Centre – An Introduction

Young people are full of curiosity that, once encouraged and nurtured, knows no bounds.  Cambridge Science Centre (CSC) feeds that natural curiosity, encouraging a lifelong passion and understanding of how science and innovation will increasingly impact on the world around them and inspiring them to believe in the part they can play.

An independent educational charity (Registered Charity No. 1146349) CSC is dedicated to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) engagement through hands-on exhibits, shows and STEM activities for young people and their families to ignite curiosity in the next generation of young learners

Since opening our doors in 2013, CSC has interacted with over 350,000 young people and their families, visited more than 300 schools throughout Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk and held over 100 street science pop-up events.

We are guided by three main principles:

  • To develop, acquire and host high quality, curriculum-based, hands-on exhibits, shows, activities and events.
  • To deliver targeted engagement both in our Science Centre and through outreach in schools and communities that will improve access to STEM subjects for underserved communities throughout Cambridgeshire and the East of England.
  • To evaluate our outreach to determine how effective our unique, multiple touch point model is in helping to inspire and excite as well as improve attainment in STEM subject.

We are seeking a dynamic, resilient, confident and experienced Head of Development to lead the fundraising for Cambridge Science Centre and help support us in the next stage of our growth.

As Head of Development you will have the responsibility for maximizing the charity’s income by growing and managing major donor relationships, identifying and developing new funding opportunities, moving forward on current opportunities, and setting up and running fundraising events.

You will be able to demonstrate a significant track record of securing incomes sufficient to meet our business plan objectives and of building mutually-beneficial relationships with the region’s technical and scientific entrepreneurs.

This is a very exciting time for the Cambridge Science Centre.  We have been through a period of significant change to ensure we have internal systems and processes in place to provide a solid foundation for our continued growth.  In addition, we have recently relocated to new premises which gives us a great, central Cambridge location to showcase the excitement of science.

If you are looking for a role where everything you do will be noticed and make a difference to establishing the value of science, technology, engineering and mathematics as vital skills for day-to-day life and future careers, then please do get in touch, we do want to speak to you.
