FAMILY VOLUNTEERING
Are you looking for meaningful, educational, purposeful activities for you to do as a family? Then volunteering as a family might be worth looking into although relatively few advertise roles as geared to families, many will consider it if you approach them. The sorts of opportunities that might be available are:
Conservation/environmental: beach & public parks clean; working in community gardens & nature reserves See Cambridge Past Present and Future
Community outreach e.g. befriending and walking animals for people recently returned from hospital
Arts: getting involved in community art schemes
Fundraising: bag packing at supermarkets to raise funds for an organisation.
National Trust – one of the few marketed as family volunteering
You could find yourself cooking up a storm in a 1930’s kitchen, clearing up a beach, helping to run an event, getting stuck in conserving your local countryside, building a dry stone wall or even dressing up and showing visitors how to do washing the Victorian way. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/family-volunteering
